About Wayne Krivsky:

1) Born in Niagra Falls, which may buy them some juice with Buffalo.

2) Degree in Mangement Science from Duke.

3) Like Brian Cashman, worked his way up from the ticket office in baseball to a GM job.

4) Spent 26 years as an assistant GM or special assistant to the GM.

5) Getting Josh Hamilton just as he was finding himself --- and getting him the way he did --- was among the slicker moves you'll ever see.

6) Flipping him for Edinson Volquez --- not such a bad move either. Pretty ballsy.

7) Claimed to have "fought for an hour" to keep his job when the Reds let him go. Good for him.

8) Maybe hiring Dusty Baker was his big mistake. (I think a lot of GMs who are smart but never played at high levels are vulnerable to overtrust guys who've spent their lives in major league dugouts. Similar to how politicans and and columnists who otherwise should know foreign policy nonethless feel a little insecure when confronted with an honest-to-God general.)

9) Refused to take the heat on Corey Patterson when he was let go, saying he forced to make the deal. He owned up on Mike Stanton being his mistake, which he damn well better have done.

10) Hell, yeah, he's a potential replacement. Don't kid yourself.

And the sooner the better, I think.

Until that day comes, though, do we know what his responsibilities will be? Or will he just have to sneak up behind Omar a few times a day to breathe down the back of his neck?

Bronson Arroyo for outfielder Wily Mo Pena was a good move. I agree with Grim , it just seem a matter of time as to when he will be the GM. I would rather it happen now though as I don't know what a new GM can do when he takes over half way through the season.

No, I'm not going as afar as you're going and advocating. Only saying he's qualified. And if Omar went, I have little evidence to suggest Wayne's the best candidate to replace him, only a potential one.

C'mon. In times of adversity, don't root for heads to roll. Root for Mets to triumphantly prosper and conquer their circumstances.

Krivsky's rap was that he rubbed people the wrong way and was especially difficult with the media.

The Cincinnati media.

One can just imagine the stories the NY media would be writing if he does ever get the GM job......a whole lot of how they are so much tougher that the Cincy media...feck them...build a winning team and who cares about that. That stuff wouldn't even be a consideration would it?

Well, half the indictment people want to hold over Minaya's head is his media handling, i'n'it?

Does he have an awful trade in his past, like Omar's flipping of Sizemore, Cliff Lee and Brandon Phillips for big fat Bartolo Colon?

Posted

Every GM has an awful trade (or three ... or ten if he's been around long enough) hanging around a back closet somewhere.
Omar's Colon deal was particularly bad but it was also under particularly odd circumstances. He was specifically told not to think about the future for his (MLB's) team.
