Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 These are the latest names coming out of the rumor mill as Mets targets.Sheets: "A major-league source confirmed that Sheets, 31, would be among a group of second-tier, relatively low-cost starting pitchers the Mets will consider this offseason while continuing their pursuit of top free-agent starter John Lackey."
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I think I would rather keep Pagan that put him in a trade for Jose Guillen, and I'm not hot on Cust but he'd be cheap .
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Rotoworld had rumored that Sheets was going to retire..A day Later Sheets was like "Hey I'm not dead yet!" and said he would pitch in 2010Jack Cust in LF? Think Mike Jacobs

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I guess I like Sheets as much as any in the field.Pagan on the up may be comparable to Guillen on the down low, but it's not like his injury issues aren't a concern also. Dude recovers slowly.

willpie Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 1. Don't we have enough talented-but-fragile starters?2. No thanks.3. There's no DH in this league. Do you really want to try to hide an awful OF glove in Citi's huge grass?
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Ben Sheets could be okay if he comes cheaply. He had great stuff when he could remain healthy. As long as he isn't the only move to add depth to the rotation, then I wouldn't be opposed to looking at him.Not big on trading for Guillen. Cust's best position is DH, I don't see him as a logical fit for any of the Mets pressing needs. There has to be a better use of the teams resources than to acquire Cust in a trade.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Jose Guillen hasn't had a better OPS than the .837 that Pagan posted last year since 2004. Cust has hit better than that, but not by nearly enough to make up for the difference in defense. If you want an outfielder, get somebody better than what we've already got.
