So, you may not have noticed, but we never had a Bullets of Cool thread for October. I think we all owe a special thanks to our own Sgt. Hulka, Frayed Knot, for compiling our award winners.

But that's a lot of heavy lifting for one man. And you may be asking how YOU can help. Well, the answer is in the lower right hand corner of this post, fool. See that red exclamation point? If you see a Bullet, click that punctuation mark and click it good. A form will open asking you why you're flagging that post. Select "Other" from the drop-down menu, and use the Further information: field to specify that you are nominating the post for Bullet of Cool. Feel free to tell us why. Although, with any true bullet, the reasons should be self-evident, we admins aren't going to stop you if you feel an urge to express yourself. Just know that we'll be the only readers. At the end, hit Submit.

Feel free to play with your explanation points, just don't Submit. This post is no BoC.

Neat idea. I tested it with one of my own BOC-worthy comments. Is there any way to customize the menu to add the BOC as a drop down choice?

When this thread was first opened, I did a search on the keyword "bullet" to see whose posts had been "nominated" by others.

Only two came up, and both of them were nominations for posts that I had made, so I decided not to do anything with that info. But maybe all we need to do is, when anyone sees anything "cool", quote the comment and put "BULLET OF COOL" under the quote. At the close of the month, the search feature can expose these nominations.

Then there's something that I'm not getting. Are you, as an admin, NOT seeing the results of posts that were "reported" by means of clicking the exclamation point?

No, we do see the exclamation point. I just thought that it was kind of distracting. But if it's only distracting the few, and not the many, then I guess it's less bad.

But if we use my suggestion, then you don't have to be an admin to administer the bullets of cool. Anyone can search for the "BULLET OF COOL" text.

Ah, so there's no way to isolate or otherwise have those 'nominated' posts come to the attention of the admins other than to just stumble across them by seeing the enlarged marker?

There probably is, I think. Even if not, it's easy enough to find, as the exclamation points are next to the threads, as well as the posts 'emselves.
