The team had a lot of injuries in 1973 to key players but the were all back by September.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 1987 had a lotta pitching injuries. One after another. But nothing like this year, when two pitchers, subbing for other injured guys, injure legs running the bases or fielding. Crazy
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 '73 was the one I thought of too.I remember a lot of guys playing out of position for a while - particularly in the OF.

Met record is... 54, in '67, right? (Anyone care to confirm?)'87 was when Leach held down a rotation spot for 15 games or so, right?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 But, in the meantime, Holliday just whiffed w/the bases loaded and it's still 5-0 heading for bottom 5.All of which means we have an outside shot at winning this game.

Their sixth starter was David Cone and he ended up breaking his finger during a bunt attempt --- in injury that he would later claim gave his pitch added movement. And 2004 was no pic-a-nic with injuries to Floyd, Piazza, Matsui, Reyes, Scott Erickson. Victor Zambrano more or less arrived injured that year.2005 wasn't as bad but they all came at once. The same day that Beltran and Cameron collided, Cliff Floyd went down hard. He was clearly in system shock pain throughout his body but he insisted on staying in, even as it took him 20 minutes or so to collect himself. Willie left him in and continued to play him and I hated Willie that day. Floyd was a wreck the rest of the season.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 After being at Citi on Monday night and hearing the less-than-warm reception that Figueroa got, I hope he got cheered loudly today.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 In '67 it wasn't injuries though but vigorous turnover + some military commitments. Somewhere I did a list of guys by years... I wonder if someone has a database of that stuff.Hey we're kicking ass

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 This year's a bit like if the 1985 and 1987 injuries got rolled into one big lump, plus you took out Keith and, say, Backman for half a season, broke Teufel's hand so, say, Kelvin Chapman started 120 games, and Carter lost his power for a year.Oh, yeah, and midway through the season, the team trades Lenny Dykstra for late-career Tony Armas.
