nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 went to the game tonight and what an awesome time. fuck the Mets and overpriced citi field, we got in for $17 each prepaid, sat 20 feet from the field, and saw a really exciting game including:-a diving defensive play by tri-city's SS that nobody on the Mets active roster could make-a dropped flyball (hey, its still single-A)-FOUR strikeouts in one inning for the Mets 35th round pick, a college pitcher out of The Citadel named Wrenn.-the horrors of bunting, as tri-city moved them up with 1st and 2nd but the Cyclones K'd the next better and then got the pop-out-heads up baserunning that you sure won't see in flushing: with 1st and 3rd and 1 out, there was a ground ball to the second baseman, the runner on first stopped and got himself caught in a run-down which led them to get the force at forst and then tag him out... but not before the run came home and it counted because it wasnt a force.-the tri-city SS got taken out on a double play by a hard (but clean) slide but hung in there to complete the DP-and finally, down 2-1 in the 9th, the Cyclones tied the game and then loaded the bases for pinch-hitting lefty Nick Santomauro who hit one high off the wall to the opposite field and got mobbed by his exuberant teammates. i originally thought, as did everyone around us, that the ball had cleared the fence and that Santomauro had gotten credited for a single Robin Ventura style.i also caught a t-shirt (the first thing i've ever caught at a game, i'm still waiting for that elusive foul ball) and cut my ankle against the seat doing so. i gave it to some kid, i'm sure it wasnt my size.
