Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I don't like Cohen characterizing Manuel going with Ken as "gambling." There wasn't a right move there.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Damn. I swear it was tied when I walked away for a couple minutes.Freaking Phillies.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 (edited) Y'know, it's easy to say that the sac bunts "worked" in the early innings as they led directly to runs. But that's at least partially a false argument. Those runs either would have, or at least could have scored anyway, and what the sac bunts do in the long run is to make it more likely that those innings - some of which were started with leadoff doubles fer crissakes - would top out as single-run innings. Once you give up the out to move the runner over and another to get the run in it's 2-out w/none-on and very little chance of a crooked number going up on the board.I'm really getting sick of this fascination with the sac bunt and those potential runs we're giving up early are coming back to bite us later on as we work with no margin for error. Scoring first is something that I think is important. But you have a good point .I wasn't too thrilled at all with the second Cora bunt.We had one out there already and behind Cora : Beltran, Sheff and Wright seeing Moyer for the second time tonight.

Scoring first is something that I think is important.Y'know what's a good way to score first when you get a lead-off double with 2-3-4 in your lineup coming up? ... Swing the freakin' bats!!!!Who knows, you might even put up a (dare I say it?) TWO-SPOT!
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I disliked all three of the bunts. What I really disliked was Jerry's incongruent strategy. He's playing for one run when his leadoff hitter is on in innings 1, 3 and 5, but then when the Phillies are threatening to tie, he plays the infield back and just lets them tie the game instead of trying to protect that precious one run.Not many fans of the opposing team tonight, fortunately.Nachos Grande were unexpectedly good at the park and a nice alternative, especially if getting to the CF food court is a pain (like it is from my seats).
