RJ was to have (is?) playing for the Edenton Steamers, on the Coastal Plain Collegiate league in North Carolina, where former Met Joe Smith omce played.

RJ turned 22 in February. He was a college senior (edit -- actually he's a junior... hmm) . Anyway...

Anyway, he is to report to the Kingsport Mets and their new manager, Mike DiFelice.

The New York Mets today announced that they have signed 22 of their 50 draft picks from the 2009 First Year Player Draft, including seventh-round selection Darin Gorski, the team's highest pick to agree to terms so far. RJ clubbed his first professional HR last week and although he's whiffing a little too much, is walking too: His OBP is .398.

If he can reduce the whiffs vs. the lefties and continue to work righties for the free passes, sky's the limit for this kid, according to me.

RJ is hitting 287/409/426 // 835 with a team-best 19 walks. If he can cut the whiffs slightly and stay in center field, he could be a contendah.

1-for-3 in his debut last nite. May have to step aside for Beltran's debut there tomorrow, however.

RJ got his 2010 season started this weekend with the Cyclones, but it looks like he may have to sing for his supper as part of a DH/LF/RF pool with Cody Holliday, Will Cherry, Kurt Steinhauer and Cory Vaughn.

Anyway, RJ was 1-3 with a double. The Clones took 2 of 3 with the MFYs.

They solved that logjam in the Brooklyn outfield by promoting RJ to Savannah. He's batting .333 there after two games.
