Why do they continue to play short-handed? Reyes can't play but he's also not DL'd. Church last year with the concussions, Delgado earlier this month, etc. It goes on and on.

If a guy is hurt, for fuck's sake, put him on the DL and add someone to the roster that can contribute.

This is a recurring theme of the Minaya tenure that drives me batty.

Well, they don't want to lose Reyes for two weeks if he'll only be injured for one.

I understand the desire, but too often it turns out to be two weeks anyway.

The move I'd make right now is to demote Martinez and promote someone who can field the shortstop position. I don't know if there's really reason to think that Reyes will or won't be able to play by Monday or Tuesday, so I can't say whether they're making the wrong move by not putting him on the DL.

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I'm okay with the Reyes one, because any extra days of Reyes is worth it. And Delgado they thought they were going to have to do 3-4 days off regularly. Putz doesn't add a significant amount though. They have eight guys in the pen and are now playing an AL team. After using only two relievers last night, I've little doubt they can get through the next two days and re-assess, if necessary.
