Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 That's one each for Murphy, Sheffield & Delgado so far this year.Am I missing any?
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Murphy's getting better, Delgado won't do that shit again, and Sheffield is [not] hitting himself right to the bench and perhaps unemployment. Let's do it Mets.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I'm not sure if there are any others, but you certainly haven't missed as many as the Mets have.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Did Church drop one in the opening series at Citi?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Yeah but that wasn't routine. The others show a lack of concentration, particularly when considered together.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Alex Cora wouldn't have dropped any of those muffed balls.

Let's do it Mets.Delgado has one-handed popups many occasions. I expect he will continue to do so at least some of the time.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Delgy had an oopsie like that early in Game Two of the '06 NLCS. Foreshadowed an awful evening.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 My only point in even bringing this up was that you generally see, what, maybe 2 of those in a season? And yet we've already seen 3 now with still about 85% of the year still to come.Plus one of them directly cost us a game (Murphy's) and Delgado's last night nearly did.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Didn't Castro have a "prolonging the time at bat" drop of a pop up behind the plate?I think it was with Santana on the mound, if I remember correctly.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 Yup!I rate those as a bit tougher than the others because of the angle the catcher has to deal with and the fact that his glove isn't ideal for the task -- but it was definitely another one where a NYM fielder, while camped under a ball, had said ball hit him dead-central in the glove and still pop out
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I'm not a pro baseball player, but both the Castillo and Delgado drops bring a question to mind. When did the one hand at shoulder height catch of a pop up become acceptable? Everybody seems to do it, so I won't get down too much on those two guys. But whatever happened to getting under it and turning your glove up above your head?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Guys have gotten away with it as long as I can rememember. Few ffolks makes a fuss about two hands until you drop it.

(For you kiddies out there, Vic was a very good fielding first baseman.)LaterFrayed Knot Jul 04 2009 04:13 PM7/4 -- Omir Santos, in the CBP, with the catcher's glove.Directly leads to one run and comes just two outs after Wright inexplicably backs off of a foul pop up.Ashie62 Jul 04 2009 04:19 PM="Frayed Knot":1j03jjer]7/4 -- Omir Santos, in the CBP, with the catcher's glove.Directly leads to one run and comes just two outs after Wright inexplicably backs off of a foul pop up.[/quote:1j03jjer]I don't usually agree with McCarver but this IS major league baseballEdgy DC Jul 10 2009 06:44 PMBlown rundown play, 7/9.Frayed Knot Jul 10 2009 06:45 PMWell, shit, if we're going to track simple errors here we're going to need more bandwidth.
