Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Is Iron Sheff even his nickname? Although, you gotta love that he manages to promote his book in this interview. ]"It's like I wrote in my book 'Inside Power,' you don't have to be a rah-rah guy, you don't have to be the loudest guy, but there has to be something inside you that ain't going to allow you to lose," he said. "Even if you do lose, you want to give yourself a chance to win."I hope his character advice to our young players includes, "Never miss an opportunity to promote yourself." That's advice that's guaranteed to help win ballgames.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Whenever Gary Sheffield starts to talk I hear the same 'Waa waa waa waa' sound that one hears whenever the parents speak in a 'Peanuts' cartoon.I long ago stopped listening to him as a speech by him generally sounds like someone combined the deep thought of an 'I Dream of Jeannie' plot with the coherence of a Brittany Spears interview. The few times I have actually tried to follow his line of reasoning my hair starts to hurt since by the time he's getting around to his third sentence he's already contradicting what he said in the first one.But the Mets needing "an edge" ... or a killer instinct, or "heart", or "character", or better "chemistry" is the topic of the week right now so what better to run with coming off a rain-out Sunday than getting a guy who likes to hear himself talk talk about what the writers want to hear talked about.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I think what the Mets need is to "win games" by "scoring runs" after the "6th inning."
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 who let Rottblatt back in the pool?Hi Rottwieler!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I think Sheffield has been petulant and self-interested. But I don't think he's dumb.He comes from a ghetto that's about two square miles, but it produced like a half a dozen big leaguers --- several of them excellent --- in one generation.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Well he was smart enough to use the cream and not a fertility drug. Take your shirt off Sheff**
