Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Dude has two RBI hits vs. Braves lefthanders today, Looking pretty good.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 We're returning the asskicking they gave us yesterday. Omir Santos just banged a 3-run homer and we lead 9-1. Castillo has a couple hits and looks sprite, Tatis too.Murph with an RBI single, 10-1.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Wow, Reed with a 2-run double, now its 12-1. He's got 4 RBI
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 And there's a 2 run double by Jeremy Reed. Welcome to the Mets!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 12-1 is a special score this spring. With 40-Man Roster Guy Robinson Cancel already farmed, out Omir Santos and Rene Rivera are in a steel cage death match to see which fat catcher gets the first call when Schneider or Castro inevitiably fail to answer a bell.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 I thought we were promised a return of Carlos y Carlos today.Anyhow, their replacments --- Reed in center and Anderson and Evans at first --- hit the piss out of the ball. Tatis had a big day subbing at third for Wright also.Loaners from Minor League camp included Mike Antonioi (perfect inning), Dillon Gee (scoreless, one-hit inning), Jonathan Malo (0-1, RS), and Jake Eigsti (0-0).No errors for the Mets. Santana struck out seven in his five innings.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Reed is part of the Opening Day 25 for sure. I'd like to see Kielty or Evans take that last spot away from Marlon, though. We need another guy on the bench who can hit lefties.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 I also hope that Kielty makes the team. He's got some pop and is supposed to be a good clubhouse guy. And, unlike most of the others, he's been on a team that won the WS.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 It'd be nice, no doubt, but I wouldn't elevate it to a need. I don't think we see too many times per game when a pinch-hitter is required to come off the bench and hit a lefty. And, with a short bench, Tatis and Castro will be there. It becomes more important when we see how well Murphy handles lefties I guess. Not that I think there won't be situations I'll be crying out for one more righthanded batter, but the roster will shift around somewhat as the season goes on, and we'll see who forces the issue the best.I'm becoming a believer in the notion that the Mets add Evans and open with a four man staff until Livan is needed.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 the key is that everyone who's in the battle is fighting hard. All of Evans, Tatis (who's hardly fighting but needs to show the shoulder's ok), , Reed, Castillo, Kielty, Green Murphy & Church (competing for their lineup slot, not for their place on the roster) are all hitting the ball hard.
