No vengeance for Piazza

The WBC-depleted Mets were down 2-0 to Mike Piazza's Italian National squad, before rallying in the ninth. Key hits came from Featured Competiton III players Cory Sullivan (two-run homer) and Jeremy Reed (game winning double). Sullivan/Reed/Pagan/Kielty/Mackowiak is a really tough bunch ot pick only one from.

Maine started rough, but didn't give up the runs. That was Stokes in the third. At least we didn't get shut out by Canada like some people.

Maine apparently walked the 1st 3 guys he faced and in remarks afterward sounded completely at a loss as to what he's doing in a way that concerned me.

Church apparently missed this one after fouling a ball off his knee.

Jerry seems to like Reed best, according to Rubin, but he and Pagan might make it with Anderson getting squeezed out.

That's Kasey Olenberger blowing the game for Italy. A California native out of Long Beach State, a former Angels prospect and has actually pitched professionally in Italy. He also played for the National team in 2006.

Oh, and picking that extra outfielder looks a touch easier when I see those three strikeouts for Rob Mackowiak.

Hear me, Mackowiak?!

Bad job by the FAN, who was reporting on my drive home that "both the Mets and Yankees were shut out today." Looks like they didn't hit "refresh" on their browser after the middle of the ninth.
