Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 The WBC-depleted Mets were down 2-0 to Mike Piazza's Italian National squad, before rallying in the ninth. Key hits came from Featured Competiton III players Cory Sullivan (two-run homer) and Jeremy Reed (game winning double). Sullivan/Reed/Pagan/Kielty/Mackowiak is a really tough bunch ot pick only one from.Maine started rough, but didn't give up the runs. That was Stokes in the third. At least we didn't get shut out by Canada like some people.123456789RHEItaly0020000002100NY Mets000000003380ItalyABRHRBIBBSOLOBAVGNY MetsABRHRBIBBSOLOBAVGPunto, SS3010101.333Castillo, 2B2000111.000Santora, SS1000000.000Ruelas, P0000000.000Dallospedale, 2B3000210.000Valentin, Jo, 3B11100001.000Catalanotto, LF2110102.500Maine, P1000001.000Chiarini, RF2000000.000Stokes, P0000000.000Pascucci, DH5010034.200a-Martinez, F, PH1000001.000Denorfia, CF3121003.667Parnell, P0000000.0001-De Santis, PR-CF10101001.000Green, S, P0000000.000Costanzo, 3B2010113.500Knight, P0000000.000Liddi, 3B2000013.000b-Havens, PH-SS2000001.000Mazzanti, 1B5021024.400Anderson, LF3010000.333Rottino, C2010100.500Sullivan, LF11120001.000Cervelli, C1000012.000Tatis, 3B3000001.000Ciofrone, RF-LF2000114.000DeSalvo, P0000000.000Zileri, LF1000000.000Robertson, P0000000.000Totals35210281026.286c-Murphy, PH11100001.0001-Ran for Denorfia in the 5th.Reed, CF4021000.500Evans, 1B2000101.000BATTINGMackowiak, RF3000032.000TB: Punto; Catalanotto; Pascucci; Denorfia 2; De Santis;Costanzo; Mazzanti 2; Rottino.Thole, C2000000.000Santos, O, C10100001.000RBI: Denorfia (1), Mazzanti (1).Rivera, R, C0000000.0002-out RBI: Denorfia; Mazzanti.Coronado, SS2010000.500Runners left in scoring position, 2 out: Costanzo 2;Catalanotto; Ciofrone 2; Cervelli; Mazzanti.Green, A, 2B1000001.000Totals30383249.267Team LOB: 14.a-Popped out for Stokes in the 3rd. b-Flied out for Knightin the 6th. c-Singled for Robertson in the 9th.BASERUNNINGSB: Rottino (1, 2nd base off Maine/Thole), Punto (1, 2ndbase off Maine/Thole), Denorfia (1, 2nd base offStokes/Thole).BATTING2B: Santos, O (1, Da Silva), Reed (1, Olenberger).3B: Reed (1, Corradini).HR: Sullivan (1, 9th inning off Olenberger, 1 on, 1 out).FIELDINGTB: Valentin, Jo; Anderson; Sullivan 4; Murphy; Reed 5;Santos, O 2; Coronado.DP: 2 (Dallospedale-Mazzanti, Corradini-Mazzanti).RBI: Sullivan 2 (2), Reed (1).Runners left in scoring position, 2 out: Mackowiak;Martinez, F; Green, A.Team LOB: 4.BASERUNNINGSB: Coronado (1, 2nd base off Cillo/Rottino).CS: Evans (1, 2nd base by LaMura/Cervelli).FIELDINGItalyIPHRERBBSOHRERANY MetsIPHRERBBSOHRERACorradini21001100.00Maine22003300.00Cillo (H, 1)11000100.00Stokes132210018.00Cooper, C (H, 1)11000000.00Parnell10002000.00LaMura (H, 1)10001100.00Green, S12001300.00Grilli (H, 1)10000000.00Knight10000000.00Panerati (H, 1)10000000.00Ruelas12000200.00Da Silva (H, 1)11000100.00DeSalvo10000100.00Olenberger (BS, 1)(L, 0-1)0.143300181.00Robertson (W, 1-0)11001100.00Totals8.338332413.24Totals9102281002.00Groundouts-flyouts: Corradini 2-2, Cillo 1-1, Cooper, C 0-2, LaMura 1-0, Grilli 1-2, Panerati 1-2, Da Silva 1-1,Olenberger 0-1, Maine 0-2, Stokes 2-0, Parnell 2-1, Green, S 0-0, Knight 2-1, Ruelas 1-0, DeSalvo 2-0, Robertson 1-1.Batters faced: Corradini 7, Cillo 4, Cooper, C 3, LaMura 3, Grilli 3, Panerati 3, Da Silva 4, Olenberger 5, Maine10, Stokes 6, Parnell 5, Green, S 6, Knight 3, Ruelas 5, DeSalvo 3, Robertson 5.Umpires: HP: Todd Tichenor. 1B: Jerry Meals. 2B: R.J. Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Maine apparently walked the 1st 3 guys he faced and in remarks afterward sounded completely at a loss as to what he's doing in a way that concerned me.Church apparently missed this one after fouling a ball off his knee.Jerry seems to like Reed best, according to Rubin, but he and Pagan might make it with Anderson getting squeezed out.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 That's Kasey Olenberger blowing the game for Italy. A California native out of Long Beach State, a former Angels prospect and has actually pitched professionally in Italy. He also played for the National team in 2006.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Oh, and picking that extra outfielder looks a touch easier when I see those three strikeouts for Rob Mackowiak.Hear me, Mackowiak?!
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Bad job by the FAN, who was reporting on my drive home that "both the Mets and Yankees were shut out today." Looks like they didn't hit "refresh" on their browser after the middle of the ninth.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Any reason why Piazza isn't playing instead of coaching?Bernie Williams is on the active roster for the 'Ricans.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Haven't you heard...he's just not the same since his bacne cleared up.
