To Arb or not to arb

Yes to Ollie.
No to all other FAs, including Pedro. Ayala, Easley, Duque, Alou

Certainly no surprises.
The rule which barred a team from negotiating with their own FAs they didn't offer arb doesn't exist anymore meaning that a return of any or all of the above is still possible, it'll just have to come via a negotiated settlement rather than an automatic trigger.

And it means that if Ollie signs elsewhere it would net us a draft pick plus a supplemental (anywhere from the upper teens to as late as the 40s and 50s depending on various conditions).
Of course our 1st round pick (25th) will almost certainly wind up property of someone else before the winter is out.

I'd offer Perez arbitration for sure, I don't want to give a longterm deal to him he's just too wild and inconsistent, but another year would be fine and so would the draft picks if he refuses.

Don't offer to any of the other guys. The closest would be Easley I think.

I would have considered offering to Ayala, but I don't mind that they didn't.

I think, under the previous rule, the Mets would have had until January 8 to negotiate with the players to whom they didn't offer arbitration. Now it looks like they can still talk to them until they're signed, however long that may take.

Abreu Not that those romantic links have been scrawled on as many bathroom walls, but any of them are possible and maybe slightly more possible now that the "price" is lowered. Of course the price being lowered maybe means the price goes up ifyouknowwhatimean.

Well there was Fonzie and Rey-O, and they had their first years bought out just like Reyes and Wright now, but neither got a FA contract from the Mets.

Of all free-agent players offered arbitration this fall, only two have accepted, and both are ex-Mets: Darren Oliver of the Angels and Dave Weathers of the Reds.
