Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 For reliever Leo Nunez.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Marlins might want to think about shifting Uggla to first.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Interesting. So who plays first for the Marlins next year? Someone in house that I'm not thinking of?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Papers suggest Cantu or a rookie, Gaby something, could play 1B next year.Nunez, pretty good numbers, becomes the setup guy for Lindstrom, the new closer, as the Fish are also expected to trade Gregg.

Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Cantu has experience at 1b, and they have 3bman Dallas McPherson, who hit 42hrs in AAA last season, waiting for a shot. It seems the obvious move. I'm sure they'll also give Gaby Sanchez a long look in the Spring, but he's 24 and ha never played above AA (other than a late season cup of coffee with the Marlins last year), so they may want to have him start the year at AAA and see what happens.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 A good sell-high move for the Marlins. Jake has power, but his OBP sucks, he's still not a safe play against lefties, and an average-sized headstone would stop more ground balls at first base. Nunez is a pretty good reliever, too. Meanwhile, the Royals already had a bit of a crowd at DH and 1B before they got Jacobs. They have some younger, cheaper guys who are probably as good.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Now the Royals will hate the Mets, too.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 3 Year comparison:Jacobs:1,372 ABs - 354 H - 91 2Bs - 69 HRs - .258/.314/.483Delgado:1,858 ABs - 440 H - 92 2Bs - 100 HRs - .265/.343/.505And the thing is you would tend to think that this is the sort of gap which would start big and get smaller as the remainder of Delgado's deal wound up but, if anything, the opposite happened as Jacobs's OBP went down each year.
willpie Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Just when you thought the Royals weren't stupid anymore, they go and trade for another 1B--and one that can't take a walk, to boot.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Do they still have "walks" in the American League? I thought that was another one of those 19th Century rules that Hank Steinbrenner and the rest of his league had banished.
