Marlins might want to think about shifting Uggla to first.

Papers suggest Cantu or a rookie, Gaby something, could play 1B next year.

Nunez, pretty good numbers, becomes the setup guy for Lindstrom, the new closer, as the Fish are also expected to trade Gregg.

The Marlins have probably thought about shifting everybody to first.

First move of the offseason.

Cantu has experience at 1b, and they have 3bman Dallas McPherson, who hit 42hrs in AAA last season, waiting for a shot. It seems the obvious move. I'm sure they'll also give Gaby Sanchez a long look in the Spring, but he's 24 and ha never played above AA (other than a late season cup of coffee with the Marlins last year), so they may want to have him start the year at AAA and see what happens.

A good sell-high move for the Marlins. Jake has power, but his OBP sucks, he's still not a safe play against lefties, and an average-sized headstone would stop more ground balls at first base. Nunez is a pretty good reliever, too.

Meanwhile, the Royals already had a bit of a crowd at DH and 1B before they got Jacobs. They have some younger, cheaper guys who are probably as good.

3 Year comparison:

Jacobs:
1,372 ABs - 354 H - 91 2Bs - 69 HRs - .258/.314/.483

Delgado:
1,858 ABs - 440 H - 92 2Bs - 100 HRs - .265/.343/.505

And the thing is you would tend to think that this is the sort of gap which would start big and get smaller as the remainder of Delgado's deal wound up but, if anything, the opposite happened as Jacobs's OBP went down each year.

Just when you thought the Royals weren't stupid anymore, they go and trade for another 1B--and one that can't take a walk, to boot.
