According to the folks at Baseball Prospectus (and not withstanding our complaints about coaching) the [u:6fff99ab7b]Mets had the fewest[/u:6fff99ab7b] runners thrown out at home all season.

They also have us at creating the most runs via baserunning in MLB, a stat which is a combination of runs above expected on not only steals but also extra bases taken on grounders, flies, and hits.

None of this means there weren't some dopey decisions made at times, but this just may be one of those times where we're assuming we have it worse simply from seeing our mistakes first hand.

I don't think it was as bad as it was in '07. Aguayo probably got a worse rap than he deserved, mostly after that July game against the Phillies where Chavez was thrown out by a mile twice.

And the thing that ticked off the BP article was Yanqui fan dissatisfaction with their 3B coach Bobby Meachum.

Meachum was fired today.

Can he if he is being paid by the Mets.

In England when that happens to a manager they call it "gardening leave".

He can get a coaching job even though he's being paid by the Mets. (Didn't Art Howe coach somewhere in 2005?) I'm not sure if it reduces the Mets obligation to pay him, as it would with a player. I'm guessing not.

Interesting thought. Yankee fans, for all their "come back home true Yankee Willie" sentiment when he was in Queens, were not particularly fond of Willie's third base coaching abilities when he had that job before.

I believe that yes, he can get a coaching job elsewhere.

That being said, I don't believe Howe worked as a coach until the 2007 season, when he was off the Mets payroll (he was paid in '05 and '06).
