Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 From his column today: NL Cy Young1. Santana. Gets edge over CC for ERA title and for being in the NL all year.2. Sabathia. Sheer second-half dominance.3. Lidge. Though tough to leave out Webb and especially Lincecum (18-5, with a league-leading 265 strikeouts) in this year with at least five deserving candidates.NL Cy Old: Tom Gorzelanny. Ugliest numbers ever, including a demonic 6.66 ERA.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 lidge over lincecum is just plain dumb. sabathia over lincecum (and webb) is also dumb, as, like santana, they were actually in the nl in april and may.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 i can see the argument for Santana over Lincecum (i.e., unlike Lincecum, Santana had to pitch in a pennant race, with a bad bullpen), even though i don't necessarily agree with it, but Heyman doesn't even bother articulating any justification for picking the guy with 16 wins for a winning team over the guy with 18 wins on a losing team (with ERA, IP, WHIP, Ks, and most other peripherals running neck-and-neck)but to rank over Lincecum one guy who pitched in the NL for less than 1/2 a season, and another who, as a closer, pitched less than 1/4 of Lincecum's innings, is just plain stupid.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
