Bases loaded triples rock.

I was actually surprised by that stat. I knew about Lance Johnson, but I figured there was someone else who'd gotten up over 200 somewhere along the line.

Let's hope Reyes breaks it. Only needs 6 hits a game from here on out

1996 was such a weird year.

227 hits from Lance including 61 XBHs; 31 2Bs + 21 3Bs + 9 HRs
77 XBHs from Gilkey including 44 2Bs
64 XBHs from Hundley including 41 HRs

and they still managed to suck.

If Reyes gets 6 plate appearances every game the rest of the year that would be a good sign.

Reyes owns this category, with four of the top ten seasons. I'd be maybe a little surprised if he doesn't make a run at Johnson one of these years.

1. 1996 Lance Johnson 227
2. 2008 Jos Reyes 200
3. 1998 John Olerud 197
4. 2007 David Wright 196
5. 2006 Jos Reyes 194
T6. 1999 Edgardo Alfonzo 191
T6. 1975 Felix Millan 191
T6. 2007 Jos Reyes 191
9. 2005 Jos Reyes 190
10. 1973 Felix Millan 185

Here's how much the Mets have changed. Before Johnson had his freakazoid season, the Mets top ten base-hit seasons looked like this:

1. 1975 Felix Millan 191
2. 1973 Felix Millan 185
3. 1985 Keith Hernandez 183
4. 1970 Tommie Agee 182
5. 1979 Lee Mazzilli 181
6. 1982 Mookie Wilson 178
7. 1983 Mookie Wilson 176
T8. 1967 Tommy Davis 174
T8. 1993 Eddie Murray 174
10. 1990 Gregg Jefferies 171

Jefferies has since dropped to 25.

Gary Cohen pointed out the other day that the Mets have a similar quirk with their walks-in-a-season record.

Only once has a Mets player had 100 walks, and he went way over. It wsa John Olerud with 125 in 1999. The next highest total is 97, by Keith Hernandez in 1984 and Darryl Straweberry three years later.

The thing about those 1998-2000 teams is that Alfonzo and Olerud could carry a steak of reaching base at least once a game for as long as half a season.
