Game Report--B-Mets @ Bowie Baysox, 08/17/08

My younger son and I will be at Prince George's Stadium tonight, 6:05, to see the B-Mets play the Bowie Baysox (Orioles). Dillion Gee will start for Binghamton.

I'm looking forward to seeing Carp and F-Mart. Who else should I keep an eye on?

Luis Castillo played in last night's game. Adam Rubin said that Church might be there tonight.

We took in some AAA ball here in Syracuse tonight. Saw the Chiefs beat the Rochester Red Wings 2-0 in a game that was over in 110 minutes. Helpful when you bring kids age 3 and 1 with you

Saw as many Mets fans as Yankee fans out tonight. The recent good play I think is bringing out the Mets hats/shirts.

Sat right next to a couple of Mets fans. All discussing the possibility that the Mets AAA team could be our own Syracuse club in '09.

The Binghamton Mets defeated the Bowie Baysox tonight 2-1. Luis Castillo started at 2B and batted 2nd. He grounded back to the pitcher in his first AB and walked in his second. He was then removed from the game and went into the clubhouse. Between innings, I asked one of the players if Castillo was hurt (a natural assumption) and was told that he was called up. I don't know if that means NO for tomorrow (Binghamton has the day off) or the Mets. Only one ball went to him--a flair to his right which he missed after barely jumping.

Dillon Gee was the star. In his 2nd start at AA, he went 6 innings, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K, 3 GO-11 FO. His fastball reached 91, his slider low 80s, and he has a curve. We were impressed. He outpitched Bradley Bergensen who went into the game 15-3. He left after 6 (I guess that he was on a pitch count) and here's where something strange happened: the next 3 innings were pitched by only 2 relievers and they didn't allow any runs. Really! Elvys Quezada pitched 2 (1 hit) and looked strong. Tim Lavigne got the save even though he walked the lead-off hitter.

The B-Mets runs were from HRs by Mike Carp and Caleb Stewart.

There's a limit to how much rehabbing days they can assign, I read somewhere, and the assumption was he'd return no later than Wednesday (?) I could be wrong on all of this.

JCL: right--but then why was he pulled from the game in the 3rd?

Just wondering: the numbers of the SPs were 8 and 3. If that occurred in the majors, would that be a record low?

They could have justt been working him in slowly.

Another guess is that he takes Hernandez' place at New Orleans. They're left without a real shortstop right now. Ramon Matinez faked it tonight.

There is a limit on rehab time but it's more than just the couple of days that Castillo's been playing so far.
