G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 For the first time September 25, 2003, the Mets have a Murphy: Daniel Murphy, called up and playing left as Marlon Anderson goes on the DL with hammy issues. He bats sixth. Carlos B. bats second to complete the retro feel (of sorts).Adam Rubin says this Murph "may be the best pure hitter in the Mets' minor league system, even surpassing Fernando Martinez."He's here after one day in Triple-A.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I know it's an awfully common name, but I'll throw this out there anyway. Is he any relation to this guy? Also, his middle name is Thomas, which makes me think of this guy:http://s3.amazonaws.com/findagrave/photos/2001/222/thomasdannybio.jpg
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 While Brandon Knight is off pitching for his country, Murphy has pinched his number, 28.Which will always belong to Bobby Jones and John Milner.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 MbtN: 28?Marty Noble: My 28 is Bill Robinson.MbtN: Thats a good choice. Robinson has been there as long as any player. Except maybe John Milner.Marty Noble: Milner was lazy. He had a bathrobe that was Howard Johnson colors: orange, turquoise and white. He could have gone 60-for-60 in the previous weeks but if he had that bathrobe on, he wasnt playing. If he had gone 0-for-48 and didnt have the bathrobe on, he was playing. He wouldnt say anything. If he had the bathrobe on hed just walk away. Not a nice person. He once had a wine bottle by the neck and threatened me with it. I called him the Hamper not the Hammer.MbtN: Youre ruining my childhood memories.Marty Noble: He wasnt a good guy.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I'd rather not think of Milner as a bad guy, so I won't.Murphy got a base hit in first major league at bat, tying a record.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2008 Author Posted August 2, 2008 Murph is to 28 what Endy is to 10: an awesome leftfielder.
