NEW YORK (AP) David Wright of the New York Mets will replace injured Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs on the National League All-Star roster. All-Star manager Clint Hurdle of the Colorado Rockies made the announcement Friday. Colorado outfielder Matt Holliday, originally selected as a reserve, will replace Soriano in the starting lineup. Soriano, on the disabled list since June 12 with a broken left hand, will attend the festivities. Wright, who is batting .288 with 17 home runs and 70 RBIs, will be making his third consecutive appearance in the All-Star game. Wright was a fan-elected starter in 2006 and 2007.

A wise move. Wright does well in these things. Hurdle can give gimpy Larry Boy his three innings then send him to the bench to have Wright in there when the game is on the line.

Wright said he wanted Rivera to play a few innings at third for him.

Now, the question is do they play Billy Wagner's entrance music when Rivera runs out to third?

And do they play it when Wagner enters the game?

If Wagner enters, American League bombs will fall like a soft rain over the fence.

What would be funny is if the music played for Rivera to come in and save the game and Wagner walked out on stage.

"Billy, what are you doing here?"

"Well, I heard my cue and I rushed out."

"Well, that's my music."

"Yours? You mean you
wrote
it?"

"No, it's something the Yankees dreamed up for
me
.'

"They didn't dream it up. They stole it from the Astros, where it was played for me."

"What does it mean?"

"I don't know, but it's
BADASS
. That's why they played it for me."

"Yeah, well we're not the most original team. Are you going to get off the mound?"

"In a minute, copycat. Who you facing here?"

"Utley."

"Oooh...yeee.. um, I can't help you much here. See ya. Don't let your team down."

Rivera: Hey Billy?

Wagner: Yeah Mo.

Rivera: You might want to stay out of the punch. I electrified it to keep it free of bugs.

Imagine if they did play "Enter Sandman" for Wagner the Yankee fans would go crazy booing , except of course it's the All-Star game so the stadium will be full of corporate types who know nothing about the game.....oh wait , never mind.

Irish en fuego as well!

Wags sucked up the game last year, if I recall, giving up a bomb to Victor Martinez.

Actually, our pitchers typically don't do well in these things. I remember Leiter getting lit up one year, Wags last year. Heck, it's probably been bad since Doc wiffed the side in 1984 or '85.

Didn't Bobby Jones go 1-2-3 (whiffing Griffey and McGwire) in '96 or '97?

Mets Walkoffs remembers notable Met pitching performances in the ASG, including one that matched immortals: Tom Seaver versus Mickey Mantle under the Astrodome roof.
