Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Turns out that Cancel's 9 year gap between ML ABs isn't any kind of record. In fact, it's not even close.43 different players had at least a 10 year gap between big league appearances with 29 more having 9 years just like Cancel. The record is 22!Most of these long-timers were from the first half of the 20th century with several of them being war-time call-ups. Although there has also been a recent increase of guys with 5 years between big league stops as the increase in independent leagues gives these wanderers new places to keep busy (like Cancel).
