Coach Count

If you believe what you read at UMDB, Oberkfell, Warthen, and Aguayo (and who wouldn't bring their legal needs to a firm with that name) will be the 91st, 92nd, and 93rd regular season guys added to the all-time coach and manager roster. The way things look, we could hit the century mark by spring training.

The definition of "coach" can sometimes be a little fuzzy.

I think that list is pretty accurate, but there may be an omission or two. (Phil Cavaretta, for example, was added much later than he should have been.)

Did you count those names right? I get that there are already 92 (including Warthen) with two more (Oberkfell and Aguayo) to be added.

I saw Warthen and assumed the other two were added.

I've got 93, including the following managers who weren't also coaches:

Casey Stengel
Gil Hodges
Joe Frazier
Joe Torre
George Bamberger
Davey Johnson
Jeff Torborg
Dallas Green
Art Howe
Willie Randolph

I saw Warthen and assumed you had added all three.

The Mets have had more managers or coaches named "Tom" than any other name, 5, although if you combine the Bobs and the Bobby's you also get 5.

Strangely, they've had two coaches each with the less common names of Denny, Vern, Red, and even Cookie.

We've now had as many coaches named Ken as we've had named Solly, Salty, Sheriff, Mookie, and Rube.

Name one trait about each guy.

Manny Acta: caucasian-looking Dominican.

Hey, whoah, no choosey. Alomar Jr. is up. Batting out of order is a crime and a sin.

(Yes, it's true about Rube. But that couldn't help poor Bill Denehy.)

Doesn't that mean that everyone between Alomar and Walker are automatically out, and Dave Wallace becomes the next batter? I read those old Ron Luciano books. I know my batting-out-of-order rules.
