Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 In the history of the New York Mets, there have been exactly two non-pitchers who recorded defensive statistics for the Mets but never got a plate appearance:Joe Hietpas, catching one inning in 2004and???
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Some other guy.I'll go with Gary Bennett.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Francisco Estrada? (For the record, I haven't looked anything up yet. I just remember him as one of the early one-game guys.)
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 Fransisco got 4 innings behind the plate (and went 1-2 to boot).Gary Bennett is a correct answer to the other question. He owns a 1.000 Mets batting average.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Wow, I brought the right gun to the wrong fight.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Every guess so far, right or wrong, has been a catcher. And so was Vance Wilson, who was temporarily a correct answer to this question.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 The correct answer here is not a catcher. The player got in 7 games, either as a pinch-runner (never scoring) or an outfielder...playing for Bobby V.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 Good guess but nope. Christiansen -- who actually replaced Gary Matthews, Jr. on the Mets roster in 2002 -- was 1-3 as a Met.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Oh... Um... Wayne Kirby?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I've racked my brains and come up with Shane Halter.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 Wayne got 31 ABs for the Mets in '98.The correct answer to this question -- guessed by G-Fafif in the other thread -- is Shane Halter.Shane got in 7 games for the Mets in '99 without a plate appearance. He made 5 pinch running appearances (never scoring) and played a total of 2 and 1/3 defensive innings: 1 inning at SS, 1/3 of an inning in RF and 1 inning in CF.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 That's how all my 90s on the Regents became 75s.
