smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 The Reds are beating the Cubs 9-0, on the strength of three home runs from Joey Votto and four more from his teammates. And in typical Dusty Baker fashion, Edinson Volquez is allowed to throw 118 pitches with a nine-run lead.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I can't believe how high my Edinson Volquez bill was this month.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Dusty sure likes to ride those young pitchers , but really 118 pitches should be nothing , trying to stretch him out?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Volquez was pulled after 7 IPs with 10 Ks & 6 BBs.Maybe an inning earlier would have been better depending on his workload leading up to this point.4 HRs against in one inning for Jon Leiber ... Ouch!

These weak sauce pitchers and managers are ruining baseball.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I don't necessarily object to a pitch count, but I think the "magic number" could possibly be upped from 100 to about 120.Dyar Miller is a pitching coach somewhere and he's doing something like that.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Nice pitching matchup going on in da Bronx.Cliff Lee, 5-0 w/a sub-1.00 ERA (after pitching so poorly last season they left him off their post-season roster) up against the 6-0 Chien-Ming Wang.3-0 Indians thru 5
