I think I'm 0-3 or maybe 0-4 in IGTs so far but
a) I don't really believe in Game Thread Mojo, except when I do
B) They're going to win tonight

1 and 3 and on a roll. Gotta hit the road later today, so getting this one started early with selected batting stances of the Cardinals past & present.

I like this matchup...not necessarily thinking that Pelf is going to top Webb...but in the fact that if Pelf is a good student, he will observe the master of Pelf's own arsenal...I'm going to sound a little "Tony Robbins"-esque on this but...IMO, Brandon Webb is the ultimate pitcher for Mike Pelfrey to use as a model for his own pitching career...Right now, Pelfrey does not have anywhere near Webb's success...but Webb is also a pitcher that relies on his hard sinker, keeping the ball down, generating grounders and has the ability to throw the ball by a hitter when he needs a K...Webb has succeeded despite pitching in a park that can be very friendly to hitters...

Webb's scouting report:
Assets
Armed with a fantastic sinker and a good fastball, Webb is a master of game management. He always battles, eats up innings, and piles up Ks. As consistent and durable as they come.
Flaws
On the rare occasion his sinker is off, Webb can give up the big inning. Not exactly a Gold Glover fielding his position.
Career potential
Ace and perennial Cy Young contender.

The "positive" part of Pelfrey's scouting report from the same site:
Has a great frame for a pitcher and loads of upside. When on his game, he pitches to contact and induces a number of groundball outs.

Tom Lawless was almost unfair, until I remembered he had one great moment.

I'm certain that if Keith and Ronny we're shown that, they'd pee themselves dry. Go, new media.

Nice try by Wright but he doesn't get Young even if he holds on to that ball.
Great diving grab tho.

He only had a game or three of rehab work and has said that stamina is going to be his biggest obstacle at the moment.
Then throw in that minor fact that he's 41 and I think 4 or 5 day workweeks might be the best recipe for him, at least for the near future.

aww,DAMN.

If Delgado doesn't get a glove on that its an easy out.
2-1 them.
Gah.

Yeah, but little stuff like that only gets to fuck up innings when the first two batters of the frame are issued free passes.

Single, sac, walk, and a Drew RBI bingle to left makes it 3-1.

Four complete.

Augie Ojeda?
Four RBIs?

Eyecurumba.

Augie doggie drives in 2 with an attempted triple.
Was a great battle with Pelfrey that at bat, who made some real sweet pitches that Augie fought off. But Pelfrey finally let one drift right over the plate.
Ugh.

1-5

Pelfrey's line^. I feel we needed 6 from him, and failing vs. Augie doggie in the 5th was very disappointing.

Zvon - "2 on, 2 out.
Come on Delgado.
make it happen"

I apologize now to Carlos for what I was thinking when I read this.

Unfortunately, Eight Belles finished second then in the run off after the finish collapsed after breaking both ankles. The poor horse had to euthanised where she lay on the track. Alas, that is sometimes the grim reality of horse racing.
