We took the boys to see Persepolis this evening. It's the autobiographical story of an Iranian woman who left Iran as a teenager, only to return as a young adult. It's an historical coming of age tale. It's nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Film, but in my opinion it's better than any of the Best Picture nominees.

In my opinion, yes. Your mileage may vary. But I thought it was a compelling story that was told in an interesting way.

Let's put it this way - it held my interest better than three out of the five best picture nominees, and as much as Juno and Michael Clayton, and it was a better presented story than all of them (with the possible exception of Juno - I keep going back and forth on that).

It's one woman's story, but it's presented in an engaging manner.

as i said earlier this was a really bad year for movies. nothing that came out this year is ever going to see any reasonable "all-time list." Two movies that lost in 1994 (Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction) are better than anything that came out this year, the same can probably be said for 1999 (Green Mile and Sixth Sense.) Come to think of it, the 90's were just way better for movies than the 00's have been so far.
