Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 On 6/16/97, who became the first DH for the Mets in a regular season game?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 More fun trivia: The first designated hitter who had the initials DH was Danny Heep in the 1986 World Series.Other Mets who had those initials are:Dave Hillman (1962)Don Hahn (1971 - 1974)Doug Henry (1995, 1996)Darryl Hamilton (1999 - 2001)
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 (edited) That would be Mr. Huskey, I believe! That would make him more of a BH than a DH, though, in keeping with the previous posts. Edited November 15, 2007 by Guest
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 That DH thing is rarer than perhaps you appreciate. No Mets C.F. --- not Chico Fernandez nor Cliff Floyd --- has played center field. Similarly, neither Larry Foss nor Leo Foster has patrolled left field.Rich Folkers as rightfielder? Not yet.Neither Scott Schoeneweis nor Shane Spencer, neither Steve Springer nor Scott Strickland has ever played shortstop for the Mets. Springer played second or third, so he had a shot. But no.Presumably, bullpen catcher duties have never been filled by Buzz Capra, Brad Clontz, or Billy Connors. Billy Cowan perhaps, but I have no record of it.Pete Harnisch did not serve as a pinch hitter (though he did pinch run). Neither, disappointingly, did Pat Howell, who played 28 unmemorable games in centerfield and pinch ran five times in 1992.The only guy I can find who matched nominal and positional initials is Prentice Redman, who pinch ran five times in 2003, scoring only once.Which gives Prentice a more notable legacy than Tike, if little more.(Afterthought, if you designate a relief pitcher as "RP," rather than "P," well, give a hand to Robert Person, who appeared 16 times in the role before buying us an Olerud.)

In fact, the Mets have never had a player at all with those initials. (They did have a GM and a manager though.)
