Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 We'd be fools not to pretend to be interested.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I'd give him anything he wants , even Shea Stadium.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 And your 2008 Yankee third baseman is currently Wilson Betamit.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 From the New York Times:]In an interview before Borass announcement, Steinbrenner said he would try to impress on Rodriguez the value of winning titles and making his legacy as a Yankee. He related a story of talking to Joe DiMaggio, who told him his championships would not have been half as meaningful if he had won them for any other team.Does he want to go into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee, Steinbrenner said, or a Toledo Mud Hen?How great would it be if the Mets and the Red Sox each won 24 World Championships over the next 48 years?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Yankee or a Toledo Mud Hen?What a snot.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 ="Edgy DC"]Yankee or a Toledo Mud Hen?What a snot.Yup. And what's so bad about the Mud Hens, anyway? At least they've got a mascot, for Christ's sake.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 Hank Steinbrenner has gone virtually "unquoted" - at least in the baseball arena - for half a century now, from his birth until just about a week ago.The last week however has raised the probability that some real stupid shit is going to be regular fare under his regime. And I'm loving it.

It was a fun place. I booed Derek Jeter as a Clipper there -- knew even then he was a punk.Attached was the Ohio Baseball Hall of Fame, and they had one of Tom Seaver's Reds jerseys. It was a beautiful thing.

Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I think it would be hysterical if he took less money to go to Boston and then spent 19 games a season absolutely pounding the pulp out of the Yankees.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 He ain't going to take less money to go nowhere.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Unless he has to, of course. He'll take the best offer he gets, but it might turn out to be less than what th Yankees were prepared to offer him.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 When can the two or three teams line up to bid on him?

The Yanx are still the only ones who can negotiate with him until the 10th of November or thereabouts. All the opt out does is effectively cancel the remaining 3 years of the deal he signed 7 years ago. That the Yanx announced they have no intention of doing so doesn't change anything. He'll be in a holding pattern until then, able to contact to other teams in the interim but not (cough, cough) discuss contract terms.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I think it's the 7th of November that their exclusivity runs to (10 days from the end of the World Series).
