... and of course I'm talking about Feliciano.

Last night's just one example, but he was brought in the get a lefty out and then was immediately pulled when he gave up a hit as if he's now a LOOGY. In came Heilman who was pretty much required to go 2 innings as Mota was already used and Sosa likely not available, and if you're going to go the Schoeneweis why not use HIM for the one-batter lefty in the 8th and keep PF for if/when Heilman rusn into trouble?

This lack of use - he's pitched to 11 batters over 2.1 IPs and 5 appearences during August - seems to have started over a couple off outings in late July the last time we faced Washington.

Other pen uses in August:
- Heilman: 6 appearences, 6.1 IPs, 30 batters faced
- Schoeneweis: 6 app; 3.1 IPs; 15 batters
- Mota: 8 apps; 8.0 IPs; 39 batters
- Sosa: 8 apps; 12.0 IPs; 48 batters
and once more for Feliciano: 5; 2.1; 11 (five of them in one outing)

So are they hiding an injury?

Any reason to think those one or two bad outings were the start of a downfall?

Did he run over Willie's dog?

Was there a past incident that I'm not remembering that put him in the 'Chateau Bow-Wow'?

btw, Heilman's starting to get the, "I hate that look on his face" trashing from fans at a rate not heard from since the Johnny Franco days.

Seems like there's an unusual amount of secret, unexplained stuff going on with the relief staff under WWSB.

I didn't see that addressed by the papers today but it sure seems like a good question.

I think Willie's stuck between using Feliciano as his LOOGy and using Schoeneweis for longer low-leverage work, and saving Feliciano for longer high leverage work, and making Schoeneweis the matchup man. Neither has been an ideal setup.

I think he's currrently in the mode of "Scotty's my one-guy specialist, unless I really really need that out and stuff, then I'll use Pedro."

I think Willie has Pedro on a short leash, took Willie a while to trust him last season,in his gut I think Willie doesn't really want him.

Joe Smith has only thrown five innings since going down.

The radio guys said Smith described feeling fresh for the first time in a while with the rest. Maybe this steels him for the September drive.

Feliciano is apparently outspoken in the clubhouse and has gotten on WWSB's bad side in the past.

Willie might not have a good side. I'm not sure.

For Smith it was somewhat planned though.
One of the stated reasons for sending him down was so that he could be used when it was best for him and not when the circumstances of the game dictated he was needed.

The Pedro on a short leash or not being a favorite reasons don't seem to have logical explanations. Why would either of those be the case?

God I can't stand this stuff. Nothing a caller says will bother me much anymore, I've resigned myself to the fact that there are idiots in the world....BUT

About early July or so, whenever Heilman was really struggling, a 40 year oldish Italian woman (from knowing many of these that was my impression) offers this bit of insightful analysis "I hate that guy. He has this puss on his face and I just hate him."

People basically don't like the way he looks. I remember in the first year of the no facial hair rule, I often heard the claim that Piazza "looks like he doesn't care this year". Of course the jackasses never realized that he's looked the exact same way his ENTIRE LIFE he's just had his mouth hidden behind a beard.

And of course Johnny Franco's "smirking" after a big hit just proved he didn't care.

Not sure why this irks me so much. The majority of other stupidity doesn't bother me.

Steve Somers said the other day that if you listened to WFAN callers you would think the Mets are in last place.

My favorite along those lines (read: least favorite) was the anti-Bobby V. callers/ranters.

Guys would call up barely able to talk without sputtering they were so mad and rant about why BV was the biggest idiot on the planet for not bunting in some spot, or PH-ing X when it should have been Y, etc. ... and the host would generally try to talk him off the ledge by explaining WHY he didn't PH there, or why a bunt was NOT a good move and therefore Bobby's logic was actually perfectly sound in that case. Those kinds of responses would leave the ranter without a case meaning his only comeback was to stammer and stutter like a pissed-off Ralph Kramden until he was finally able to get out the words;
"YEAH BUT THAT ****ING LOOK ON HIS FACE WHEN HE DID IT"

Stuff like that is why Somers is the only guy I listen to on the FAN.

During the game last night Keith and Gary were talking about Steve,Keith mentioned that every night on his drive home from the game he tunes in for Steve's opening monologue but as soon as it's finished he turns it off,Gary asked why and Keith said he doesn't want to listen to the callers.....

Pedro will rejoin the team in Atlanta to throw a pen session then make his way to Brooklyn to pitch next Monday for the Cyclones...at least that's how things look according to Newsday.

I posted a rant on this in another thread. People hate the look on Franco's face, Heilman, Piazza, etc. Drives me nuts. And I don't go nuts easily. At least I tell myself so.
