DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2007 Author Posted July 29, 2007 Apparently it's related to a shoulder injury he sustained awhile back. I see San Diego has also released another once-promising third-baseman, Russell Branyan.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Rumor has the Yanx sending Scott Proctor to the Dodgers for Wilson Betemit.Yanx originally got Proctor from LA (by dealing Ventura IIRC) and this move clearly signals that they've got some other relief deal up their sleeves; either a MLer or they've committed to bringing up their minor leaguer Chamberlain to fill the hole. Not sure what exactly they'll do with Betemit; stregthen their bench I guess. He was once everyone's favorite SS prospect before Reyes started moving up, but eventually outgrew that position and never really hit enough to snag a full-time job. Another one of those Brave prospects they dealt while he was hot.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 We're looking at this perhaps a little too much through Yankee goggles. This seems to hurt a potential pennant rival.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I don't really think it helps or hurts either team too much.Just seems a little odd is all. The team with a strong pen trades for a faltering reliever they once had, while the one with a depth problem in the pen gets rid of one for a 3B/SS who'll never play either.

Torre on WFAN the other day seemed to like the idea of getting Chamberlain up to see if he can help out.I feel that this trade was made to pave the way for another trade that brings in a reliever, but we'll see.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7072074The back of Boston's bullpen is going to be Okajima (0.87 ERA, 0.81 WHIP), Gagne (2.16 ERA, 1.05 WHIP), and Papelbon (2.15 ERA, 0.90 WHIP).Yikes.Also, Ken Rosenthal is the MVP of the trade deadline.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Gagne has agreed to the trade sending him to Fenway (he had a partial no-trade).Sox going to great lengths to "Boston Massacre-proof" themselves this season and break the 9-year division run by their neighbors to the south.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 They're gonna be fun to upset in the World Series.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 And so JD pulls a 180 after a tasty lunch changes his outlook.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Braves acquired LHP Royce Ring from the Padres in exchange for LHP Wil Ledezma and nonroster LHP Will Startup.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Will Startup?I know what song to play when he's warming up on the mound. I hope he's a starting pitcher.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Pirates trade some guy for Matt Morris.Pirates?Must be gearing up to face us.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Rajai Davis a speedy 26 year old centerfielder without much major league experience was the guy traded for Morris. I like this move by the Pirates.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Things could be worse, we could have traded for Jose Contreras who just gave up a 1st-inning hit to everyone in the Skank lineup tonight except Mr I-Want-500.Foretunately, Mr. Mussina is a reciprocal kinda guy. 4-3 Yanx in the 2nd.]I like this move by the PiratesI don't quite see it.Morris has been residing in mediocre land for a while now and is signed for some $10mil per thru next year with the Giants not picking up any money. Not sure how he fits into Pittsburgh's plan right now, assuming they even have one.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 imo he makes the team better, i dont know/care what the "plan" is because its not my team
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 ="Johnny Dickshot"]Pirates trade some guy for Matt Morris.Pirates?Must be gearing up to face us.I thought I saw that on the scroll,WTF?
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Oh Rajai Davis, he hit a double off us last week, IIRC. Serious speed.
