smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I'll be really impressed if the Mets can win with this line-up.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I hope Vargas isn't a ground-ball pitcher. I might have put Gomez in center and Chavez in left, because I don't know how familiar Gomez is with left field.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I didn't even know Newhan was an infielder.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Although Gomez did play there last night. That's what I get for not staying up.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I think I saw Newhan buying a glove at the Sports Authority this morning.
Batty31 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Quick Reyes update...Reyes did want to play today, but Willie made the decision to sit him out. Reyes says he's ok. Ed Coleman said more than likely it would be a day to day deal.

So does that senior citizen at third base.="Batty31"]There was an article in The Sporting News a couple of weeks ago that claimed he can play all infield positions except for SSSo can I, doesn't mean I'm any good at it though.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 If Vargas can win this one then fair play to him,he must have wondered what he did to deserve this lineup.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Soriano appears to be advertising something on those black things below his eyes.Nice 1-2-3 inning to start for Vargas, although Gotay looked shaky on that last grounder.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Yeah, starting him there is interesting, as he'd never played shortstop in a big league game before last night. Easley played 27 games there as recently as last year.I guess we didn't appreciate that, when Valentin went down, we lost our backup shortstop as well as our starting secondbaseman.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Soriano just played a shallow fly ball to left about as poorly as you can play it; Green gets on with a two-out single.

Willie apparently thinks his range at short is better than Easley's, or at least wants to see what he can do there. Gotay could make a decent career out of being a switch-hitting utilityman if he can handle shortstop, assuming his bat isn't quite good enough to play second full time.

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 1-0 Cubs, bottom 4.Castro up with two out and Newhan on second...
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Vargas had 3 nice innings then lost the perfect game, shutout, etc. in the 4th.Newhan with a 2-out single, steals second...
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Aflac trivia:Only three players in MLB history have played for the Mets, Yankees, Cubs, and White Sox. Name them.First name that comes to mind is Claudell Washington, but I'm not sure that he was ever a Cub.
Batty31 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I'm at work and had to shut the radio off for a bit...how did the Cubs score??
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Lance Johnson is one of the three.Claudell Washington isn't.
