The UMDB has Sherry debut-ing on April 11, and then Carl Willey on April 11th too, and then Schreiber on the 14th. Also it lists Stallard on the 10th.

OE: retrosheet confirms Stallard debuted on the 10th. (My bad.) Where you getting those dates (and that order) from? OE: retrosheet also sez that Sherry and Willey debuted on the 11th

Should be (AFAICT)

Didn't look at the 10th or 11th, assumed they were done.

We'll learn as we go how to build, I suppose.

The un-linkable retrosheet includes (in BF) the moment that a player makes his MLB debut in their PBP.

I think it's best to use the UMDB and then confirm with retrosheet.

Of course that's why all the people who work for me tend to quit suddenly and angrily.

The dates are from the box score data.

The sequence, when more than one player debuts on the same date, is probably by chance, although I may be listing starters first and then reserves, but I don't recall if I am or not.

Two years apart, no less.

I hope Yancy, whose database is Biblical, is checking our list against his for such errors, hopefully on our part.

Well, with almost any lists of 800+ units, compiled independently, there's bound to be discrepancies, so someone should compare at some point.

Is yours in list form? Or is it just "the Mets who debuted in 1962" (which may not reflect lineup order, but that's okay because you never claimed they were in any order of appearance) plus "the Mets who debuted in 1963" etc.,? If the latter is the case, anyone could just verify that our 1962 is the same as yours, and be scrupulous about who appeared (as we've defined "appearing") in a game first.

But when we say "800th" Mets, we've been working off the simple sum total from your list, correct? In that case, no actual list exists that you or anyone could check against?

Dickshot has recorded who were Mets 100, 200, etc. so if we start hitting those markers incorrectly red lights will go off and the machinery will automatically shut down.

So Schaefer and Schneck check out?

It would be funny if all eight start with "Sch."

Yes, exactly. You can verify it yourself by looking at the 1962, 1963 etc. pages and checking the box score and, if necessary, the Retrosheet game accounts for any tie-breakers when two or more players share the same debut date.

In my opinion, it's easiest to compile first and then review for errors. I wouldn't be shocked if you found a additional error somewhere in the list so far (say, around 119-120).

If you're interested in checking for errors, go right ahead. The UMDB has on each year page a list of Mets that debuted that particular year, in date order. You couldn't create this list strictly from those (depending on order of game/doubleheader appearance) but it works to ensure you had everyone for that particular year.

Of course, I (and others, perhaps) get more satisfaction out of doing it through a slightly longer process. Plus, you learn more that way, too.

I took someone else's word that Sudakis always came out at 200 and some guy wrote me once saying he didn't, we were off by one. Looks like Shamsky is the culprit!
