Trivia (sort of...)

In the baseball preview issue of Sports Illustrated they ranked current players from 1 - 400 (pitchers not included - they did that separately) based on their PVR (Player Value Ranking).

Here is their criteria:

We ranked the position players in the major leagues from 1 (the best) to 400, based on our projections of their statistical production this season. The categories considered for position players were batting average, home runs, RBIs and stolen bases. We also took into account each player's career stats as well as his role on his current team, his prospects for improving or declining, his injury history and his current physical condition. Using these criteria, we determined each player's value ranking, or PVR.

My question: Can you tell me who the top 10 players in MLB are according to SI's PVR?

Extra Credit: Put 'em in order.

Copulate me! This reading thing is getting harder.

Stick, um, Brian McCann and Ichiro Suzuki in there at the bottom of my list, unless this PVR is only for fantasy leaguers and only covering offense or something. In that case, kill me.

McCann and Ichiro are not in their top 10.

The categories considered for position players were batting average, home runs, RBIs and stolen bases. We also took into account each player's career stats as well as his role on his current team, his prospects for improving or declining, his injury history and his current physical condition.

This shows how out of touch I've become since my days as a rabid Sporting News reader.

I've never heard of Carl Crawford. The name doesn't even ring a bell.

200+ steals in the past 4 years for the devil rays, he's got some pop in his bat too as his HR total has steadily risen every year and he'll only be 25 this season.

I believe Crawford was talking about YSG when he complained last year at the ASB that he got no credit for being a better player than Reyes.

I guess he was.

Tell him to come to the Mets and I'll put him in my database.

People have just got to brace themselves for Jose Reyes still being a work in progress. Remember last year opening with a dozen-page thread on his deathwatch.

So no Manny, Guerrero or Jeter, huh?

My new guesses in red:

1. Pujols
2. Soriano
3. ARod
4. Reyes
5. Ortiz
6. Morneau
7. Beltran
8. Andruw Jones
9. Howard
10. Crawford

1. Pujols
2. Soriano
3. ARod
4. Reyes
5.
6.
7. Beltran
8.
9.
10.

All but two have been named.

Crawford, Ortiz and Howard need to be ranked correctly (or according to SI).

="metsmarathon"]i cheated. 6 and 8... are you f'n kidding me?

Well, they did say that 'role on his current team' plays a factor...

Oh, and you meant '6 and 9...are you f'n kidding me?'

Jeter above Hafner? Really? And Ichiro too?

Jeter plays SS (even if most of us think he doesnt do it very well) Hafner is a DH.
