Xavier Nady to be tested for Crohn's disease

Nady, hospitalized earlier in the week for an inflamed intestine ...
will be tested for Crohn's disease, a lifelong condition that can cause pain in the digestive area and weight loss.

The risk of having the disease is greater if it runs in the family and Nady informed doctors that he has a cousin with the condition.

feel bad for the dude, but it does seem like there is some amount of treatment that it shouldn't end his career.

prayers are with him.

I liked Nady during his short stint with the Mets. He turned out to be better than I think most here at the Crane Pool expected he would be.

I wish him the best of luck with his medical problems.

Got a friend who has had it his whole life (guy's 41). When he was a kid it sidelined him a bit but as an adult he finds it very manageable.

Besides being a bit anal about germs and what he eats he leads a normal everyday existence.

I read that part of the treatment for Crohns Disease is steroids.
If word of that leaks out, there could be an epidemic of that ailment throughout professional sports. Well, at least when the test results are released.

There's two kinds of steroids. The kind doctors use are corticosteroids or something like that. The kind they use in livestock are anabolic steroids and they're the ones that are illegal to use.

Acc to Adam Rubin's blog,

David Wright received a text message from Nady saying that his condition is NOT Crohn's disease but a minor inflammation of the small intestine. He is now back working out w/the Pirates.
