Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 Should we invite re-submissions now that we're in the Park era, or should we just plug Park in for Williams.I think peeps should re-submit.Anyhow, Newsday's David Lennon assumes that Glavine and Hernandez are locks (which they are, except there's always the possibility that one of them will be hurt), and he handicaps the rest of the field this way:John Maine (2-1)Oliver Perez (5-1)Chan Ho Park (7-1)Mike Pelfrey (12-1)Philip Humber (12-1)Jorge Sosa (15-1)Aaron Sele (20-1)Jason Vargas (30-1)Alay Soler (50-1)Aaron Heilman (100-1)Personally, I think he's long on many of these odds. Doesn't 5-1 mean Ollie Perez only has a one in six chance of making this team? He seems more like two in three to me.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 his odds add up to 1.19i really hope we can manage to find more than 1.19 pitchers out of that lot, that we can use in the rotation.unless, of course, mr. lennon knows of a trade that we dont, and this is his very clever way of telling us...?those odds should add up to about 3, maybe just under (2.9) to account for some super-duper long shot scenario, but darned close to three, as we've got three slots left to fill.edit. i did the math wrong. i used 2:1 as a ratio, meaning 50% chance. edgy's right in that it means a 1-in-3 chance.using that, the odds add up to 0.95, which is even dumber. we won't get even one whole pitcher out of those odds! woe to us!
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 At this point I think it's likely to be:GlavineHernandezMainePerezParkThe original post asked for the first 5 pitchers to start for the Mets in 2007. I'll add my predictions for #6 and #7:SelePelfrey
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 I think Park will get cut in the coming weeks.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 Two things about Chan Ho Park:(1) He looks to be in great shape, for what it's worth, from the shots I've seen.(2) He fired Scott Boras shortly before signing with the Mets.A third thing about Chan Ho Park:(3) He's a fucking ninja-man.I'm not sure any Met suit has the guts to cut a Ninja. Do you?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 That will be a job for Jay Horowitz...
