To be honest, that three-year Yankee tenure of Sheffield's was less rocky than I expected.

On edit: Look for J.D. Drew to take his place.

I don't know about that, for some reason I get the feeling the Yankees will put their trust in a homegrown talent, Melky Cabrera.

Just a hunch, really. He seemed pretty capable last season and would allow more money to be used in areas of greater concern.

- Sheffield's usually not an on-field distraction. Torre reportedly liked him, as did Bobby Cox before him.
He's more of a pain to front-office people as he starts whining about "disrespect". He was always one of those guys I'd listen to 10 minutes of one of his rants and have no idea what the fuck he was talking about. Lots of words, no sense whatsoever.

- He should still be good for Detroit this year (how 'bout the fact that being sent to Detroit is no longer considered "banishment") but I'm not so sure I like him 3 years out.

- Yanx already have a full OF: Matsui-Damon-Abreu; can't see them chasing after Drew

They don't really need to replace him. They got Abreu to replace him.

I wonder what the market rate on Marcus Thames is at this point. He has 30-HR potential and might come very cheaply.

Seems to me the Tigers bent over for the Yanks on this one. Why do teams
let them off the hook so easily? If I were an owner, I'd be doing everything in
my power to make them regret signing players like Shef and then being stuck
with him instead of taking a risky and hurt player and then giving them a bunch
of prospects to boot (including one that is pretty highly regarded) and then giving
that risky player a two year contract extension for big bucks??

I don't get it, maybe it's because it's the Yankees but it pisses me off.

The thing that stands out in my mind about this whole deal is after all of Sheffs threats
towards the Skanks and any team that aquired him, all he had to say about the trade was:

"I was ecstatic because I get reunited with the people that Ive always loved.
They're business-minded. They're smart people. They're respectful people.
They treat you like men. That's what you want to be around.
To reunite with them after 10 years is a blessing."

Cripes, the guys a case.
He has baggage full of issues.
