Yeah it seems very strange that Carlos sits for four games......I am very worried but I think if the Mets were hiding something Gary would know about it and speak about it...at least I hope he would.

Had an MRI for another quad injury but the team is tripping over itself to tell us it's minor.

Meantime in the games he has played in September, he's .182, 1 HR, 2 RBI (44 AB). I forget which game or how, but he did hurt himself sometime near the turn of the month, dinnhe?

Here's what the website is saying:

Beltran almost ready: Randolph said center fielder Carlos Beltran has "the typical bumps and bruises" and would be ready to play Saturday or Sunday. While the manager stated there is nothing serious about Beltran's condition, Randolph said he would not risk playing Beltran if it was unnecessary.

"There's no reason to have him play where he can get hurt worse," said Randolph. "If it was the playoffs [today], he would be playing."

Beltran is suffering from a strained left quadriceps muscle that he hurt in last Sunday's game against the Pirates.

I have no doubt that he'd be playing if it was playoff time, but would he be playing well?

Paul O'Neill, by the way, invented playing hurt in the playoffs.

I'm thinking that it (like O Hernandez skipping a few starts) was more a benefit of having an unsurmountable lead...body is dinged up, accomplished goals, got the crown in the bag, getting the body some healing time...plus it's getting Willie a chance to see out of Floyd/Green/Chavez against the same pitching, which of the 3 is the guy on the bench in the post season...IMO, it should NOT be Chavez, at this moment of all 3 of their careers, he's the best man for the job: he's hitting, he's getting on base, he's driving in runs, he's having quality at bats against both lefties and righties, he's fast, he's our 2nd best defensive outfielder and can get to drives that Floyd/Green couldn't get to in their primes...plus he's had success throwing out runners...

Different strokes or whatever gets you through of course, (not to mention the difference between a handfull of games left in a year as opposed to right in the middle of the season or something) but I've seen O'Neill's situation used to bash Barry Bonds taking a few weeks off after Bobby Bonds' passing

He didn't take that long off. I think it was a week.
