Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Mets coach Mookie Wilson takes an at bat in the Mets annual exhibition game vs. the Tides at Harbor Park, Spring 1998.
Guest cooby Guests Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Those mid season Tides-Mets games. Except for the Mayor's Trophey games, they were the only ones Channel 9 didn't broadcast, and I hated that!
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 That can't be 1988??
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I met Gold Glove at a Tides game.He was 15 or 16 or so and it was like he owned the place. He sit with us for a few minutes, then run off to talk with the team photographer. Then he'd sit again, spot a Brewers scout he knew, chat him up and come back and sit with us and give us the scoop that the Brews were scouting Darren Bragg.Norfolk is the headquarters of PETA, and the ballpark had a rare selection of vegetarian fare.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Joe Frazier, Davey Johnson, and Bobby Valentine are the three managers who got the Mets job after being "called up" from the Tides. That's probably two of the three best managers in Met history on that list. Frazier, in retrospect, wasn't given much to work with. The Tides have won the Governors' Cup, the championship of the International League, 5 times, and played in the championship series 9 times.1971 - Lost to Rochester 1972 - Defeated Louisville (Hank Bauer)1975 - Defeated Syracuse (Joe Frazier)1982 - Defeated Rochester (Jack Aker)1983 - Defeated Richmond (Davey Johnson)1985 - Defeated Columbus (Bob Schaefer)1987 - Lost to Columbus 1988 - Lost to Rochester 1995 - Lost to Ottawa
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 We should invite Jack Aker to come visit us.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 You try it this time.Besides, we don't need an old guy who walks around town in a MFY uni.
