stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Okay, this is MFY related, but hey I'm talking about couple of guys who hailed from Claussen Point in Da Bronx:Few weeks back, when the Mantle stamp was announced the US Postmaster General John Potter threw out the first ball.Well, his dad was a lifetime Yankee fan, and wasn't in the best shape, so after the game, Potter inscribed the ball and presented it to his father. His father died over the weekend, he would have been 80 on Tuesday. Anyway, apparantly that ball, along with a Yankee cap went in the coffin.I'll drink to that kind of tribute! =Wonder if I can start a pettiton to get a Joan Payson stamp = Or a Gil Hodges
Guest cooby Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Nice story Steve.Pass me that Joan Payson petition
Guest KC Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I was a pallbearer for an elderly neighbor who I've posted about before whowas a big Yankee fan since before all of us were born ... well maybe not MFS62.I wanted to stick a baseball in his coffin at the wake, but chickened out. I was the first one at the parlor the following morning and the funeral dude helped me out and let me stick in. They play baseball wherever they go.
