Congratulations, and a big frosty mug of Schaefer beer, to August's player of the month: JOS REYES.

This is Jos's first win of the 2006 season. He was also player of the month in July of 2005. Two-time 2006 winner Carlos Beltran was the runner up, and Carlos Delgado finished third for the month.

Steve Trachsel is a first-time winner (long-time Met) of the Pitcher of the Month award. He finished a few points ahead of Orlando Hernandez, John Maine, Tom Glavine, and Aaron Heilman. Last year, the only pitchers to win the award were Pedro Martinez and Tom Glavine. This year we're seeing more diversity, with wins going to Glavine, Martinez, Soler, Maine, and Trachsel.

Jose gets a long-term contract and a Schaefer in the same month. Unprecedented.

Goody, I'll have to tell my dad

Is that the widest margin of victory on record? Over 4 1/2 points is significant with scores in the 20's.

There was a brief line from Adam Rubin in the Daily News the other day saying that Steve Trachsel was named the Mets pitcher of the month for August. He didn't say by whom.

Could it be us?

Nah...

[u:87d20cd254]Reyes[/u:87d20cd254]:
August 2006 OBP: .372
August 2006 OPS: 1.003

Beltran clocked in even at higher with .395 and 1.035, but he had 8 less RBI and only one more RS.

Good job, Jose
