Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I took trains from city to city in Italy a couple of years ago, and it was a pleasant way to travel. I'll be doing the same in Japan this fall. I just hope that the seats won't be too snug on my American derriere.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 ]I love taking the train, I just think it's a silly way to transport a group of people who make 200,000,000 clams between them.Look at it this way; if you and I would prefer it over plane travel for this length trip, why wouldn't they also?
Guest KC Guests Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I guess. Sometimes I start chewing on the slipper and I just can't stop untilit's ready for the trash. Woof.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 There's first-class train travel and chartered train travel also.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I remember a few years ago the Nets travelled to, I think, Philadelphia by train. They were all excited because they could use their phones.

And total trip time is actually probably less when the cities are so close together, so total boredom time would probably go down too.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Flying first class is hardly a great perk when you're only air-borne for like 12 minutes or whatever it would be from DC to Philly. By the time you reach cruising altitude ... it's time to descend. And do they even have first-class service for those short jumps? Meanwhile, all that time you "saved" is spent shuttling from the stadium in the city out to the airport, waiting around for take-off, and then waiting to land before shuttling again from the new airport back into city to get to the hotel. But hey, I bet they get first-class bus accomadations.
Guest KC Guests Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 If I was Pedro, I'd call up Tony and ask to use the Kornheiser Kruiser -get a rook to drive it - preferably Milledge (he needs some humbling).
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 A chartered bus might even be the way to go on a trip like Philly to DC.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Just because I was curious I went to the Amtrak website, for $83 you can leave Union station in DC at noon and arrive at the 30th Street station in Philly in 1 hour 35 minutes, that's the Acela train.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 The best train ride I ever had was when I was in the Army. I was returning to DC from NY and if you wore your uniform, you got a special rate. It left NY at (IIRC) 6 or 7 PM. I asked the conductor where the dining car was, and was told it was "seven cars back". As I entered the first car, there were a lot of people wearing red, cheering and drinking. I asked what was going on and was told there were six cars of Redskins fans on the train, returning from Yankke Staduim, where the 'Skins had beaten the Jints for the first time in seven years there. The guy then added "Come on, GI, have a drink with us to help us celebrate".I never made it out of that first car. How I eventually made it to the bus station in DC, then back to base, is still a mystery to me.Later
