metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Yeah so would I,Ron thinks Green will start game one but after that anything can happen.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Green hasn't done anything since coming here to earn the game 1 start in RF. Chavez has been consistently good all year. Even when he's not hitting, his fielding and running are far superior to Green's.In a best-of-3 series, we don't have time to wait to "see what happens" after game 1. Unless Green's bat comes around over the next 2 weeks, Chavez should start in RF. Unless Floyd is too hurt to play, in which case Chavez should start in LF.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 One of the things I like about Willie is that reputation or a players salary seem not to matter to him,I trust that Willie would have no hesitation sitting Green and starting Chavez.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I agree.Willie has hinted that he'll be ruthless in picking who plays and who sits. Hopefully he'll make the right choice.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 In my mind, all along Green was insurance policy for Floyd and a serviceable outfielder should we need to play under AL rules and Floyd needs to DH.I think he fits both of those roles nicely.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Without looking, Endy all the way. Green's been terrible for us. With looking . . . Green in September: 48 AB / .271 AVG / .364 OBP / .500 SLG / .864 OPSWho knew? It's his best month so far since May (.983 OPS). I'm pretty sure that's coming mostly from those two days early on in the month (double header v. Atlanta and the next game), but those aren't bad numbers. Chavez in September:36 AB / .278 AVG / .350 OBP / .361 SLG / .711 OPSMilledge is at .684 OPS in September, but he's also 6 for his last 15 with 2 walks and only 1 strikeout. Endy's also been pretty hot lately. Ah, hell, I don't know. One of more of them is going to have to step it up over the next few weeks. And to make matters worse, Floyd's at .620 OPS for September, although since Willie's Challenge, he's at .813 in his last 22 PAs. Willie's got some tough choices to make.
