Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Walks are what's keeping this very good Mets team from being a juggernaut. Despite leading the league in runs, they're eighth in wlaks. No mad walkers on this team.I want more of them boring walks.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Yeah they should really work on that because as we know in the post-season teams have to manufacture runs.
Guest cooby Guests Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Joe's a great dresser; I have noticed that purple ties are IN.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Don't the TV people dress them?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 He looks like he shops at Syms - in the extra portly section.Later
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I think Joe Morgan ruined edgy's post......my bad.

Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 As many players from the DR and PR will say, you hit your way off the island, you don't walk.Let's start playing baseball the Gene Mauch way. Leadoff bunt for a single, bunt him over to second, bunt him over third, RBI single.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 ]Let's start playing baseball the Gene Mauch way. Leadoff bunt for a single, bunt him over to second, bunt him over third, RBI single.yeah, well, how about lets not?
Guest vtmet Guests Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I don't know about anybody else...but...If I had a choice:1) in being in the top 2 positions in the league in walks, hits, OBP and batting average...Or2) in being in the top 2 positions in the league in steals; extra basehits, total bases, OPS, runs and RBI...I would pick choice number 2 every time...
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 It's not a choice, though. I want it all. I want it now.I got five walks today. Want one?
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 yeah, the best thing we can do is lead the league in ALL offensive categories, then we won't have to worry about what we need and what we don't.still, we are on top in OPS (i think) and thats probably the most important (after Runs itself which, being the goal, isnt really useful as a stat here...more of a yogi-ism "we'll lead the league in runs if we can lead the league in runs.")i would think that teams at the top of either OBP or SLG do well in runs scored and that teams at the top of both do even better. i'd also suspect that your ranking in stolen bases doesn't matter much though your ranking in sb% may certainly help.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 In order of how the various stats correspond to runs scored, IIRC, they go something like this:- OPS (and actually cetain variances of OPS, like OBP*1.4+SLG, score even higher)- OBP- SLG- BA- SBs, which are way down the list, ranking barely better than random
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 yeah thats pretty much what i'd expect.hey edgy you wanted walks, you've got walks today!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Eight of 'em.And, whaddayaknow, seven runs.
