Sanchez and Me

I may have posted some of this before on the old board.

When I was in high school, I was scouted by several major league teams (Cards and Phillies) as a pitcher and a catcher. I threw in the mid 80's at 16 years old.
Then, one summer I was playing in a touch football game and suffered a shoulder separation in a freak accident. On a wide run I got blocked into a stone walk next to the field.
It was before the days of arthroscopy and all surgery was "major". So I was told to see if it could heal itself through rest. Yes, it healed, but to this day I can't raise my arm totally vertically. And my velocity after the injury was initially closer to 40 than 80 MPH. I never was able to fully regain my pre-injury velocity.
With advancements since those days, in diagnosis as wel as surgery, I hope that if Sanchez requires surgery, he gets it as soon as possible before calcification prevents his returning to his natural throwing arm slot/ strength.

Why, do you suppose, will it take a week for them to know if surgery is necessary? Is there swelling that has to subside?

That would be my guess. That is what they usually say.

Didn't help.
Too many things (bone chips?) hindered my throwing motion.
Believe me , I tried.
(sigh)

It's a rare man who gets more speed sidearmed.

Most get more movement. Some get more control, but speed is tough from that angle, as --- among more physiological reasons --- you're working against gravity, rather than with it.
