Memories of Xavier Nady

I liked Nady. I wanted to love him, but never quite got there. He'd come up to bat, and I'd cheer for him to make us love him, and he'd get a key hit, and I'd be happy. But somehow I never made that link from like to truly being a fan. Perhaps it's because, like David Bell, the man never seemed to smile.

I also remember his poor baserunning on Opening Day. We were with my friend Michelle, among others, and she was kidding that she was going to invite him to the running clinic that her LIttle League was having that week.

That said, X-Man was a pleasant surprise this season - a live bat, solid defense, and a lot of hustle. I may not have gotten to the point of loving him, but I'll miss him.

My 6-year old daughter loved him. When we went to a game in May, he hit a big HR to center to help the Mets in a win, over, ironically, his current team.

It was the first time she saw the apple in person.

Now I have to tell her he's gone. Sniff.

Took an absolutely enormous cut at the ball, like chopping down a tree. Hit massive home runs in the first two Met games I saw him in this year. Wanted him to do well. Thought he was handsome.

Never really swallowed Omar's "he's part of our young core" talk.

Mighta hit 30 HRs if healthy all year.

Absence during the 9-1 trip prolly provided an idea of what could be done without him.

I was in that boat when Roberto Alomar was traded. I hate telling little kids that their favorite players have been traded :(

I really thought Nady would contribute. He was so highly touted a few years back, and I figured he was just waiting for the right opportunity. I guess he'll get the chance to play in Pittsburgh, but I thought he might have been a nice fit here.

Nady did contribute: His hot April helped us get off to such a big lead he made himself expendable.

He was a nice little contributror.

Raise your hand if you dissed the Mets because they went with hiim over Victor Diaz.

Just as I hated to see Cameron go in the trade that brought Nady to new York, I now hate to see Nady leave. He was far better than most of us expected he would be. He played hard and seemed to be a good team guy.

I wish him well in Pittsburgh, just not when facing the Mets.

All for naught-

I got all new KaBOOMs coming up in the second half -
esp for players I had been overlooking, like Nady.
But this was my best and favorite and I just couldnt wait to use it.

Well, I have a Chavez & Milledge up my sleeve.
But dont tell anyone................
