MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 Where's Don Gullett on the list of those (Yankee) free agents. And he should be near the top.The writer is either too young to remember or didn't do his research.Or both.He had one good year, then injury ended his career at the age of 27/28.Later
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 ]Brown and Hampton are two examples of deals gone bad in the last five to seven years. But what about more recent history? Here are the biggest busts since the end of the 2004 season
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 The Yankees signed Gullett. He gives them good pitching --- sometimes excellent --- for a year and a quarter, contributing to one world championship*, and tears his rotator cuff and is done. I don't know how that measures up as a crippling free agency acquisition on a par with the ones listed. At any rate, the article specifies that these are "the biggest busts since the end of the 2004 season."* Maybe two, if you think that maybe the Yankees don't pull out the 1978 division race without Gullett's modest 44.7 innings pitched (4-2 and a league average ERA).
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 Loopers 6-1 this season---probly due to his own blown leads, but still.
