Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 My friend and I are seeing this movie this evening. I figured I'd set up the poll to be ready for when I get home.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 I really liked this one. But, then again, I'm a girl. Most of you will hate it.It's beautifully filmed. Meryl Streep is perfect in the role of the evil boss - it would have been very easy for her to be chewing on the furniture, but she turns in a much more layered performance. Anne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries, Brokeback Mountain) was very good as the Unfashionable Duckling who grows into a Fashion Swan. For me, it brought back a lot of what it was like to be young in New York and working among incredible wealth and influence.I enjoyed it. I don't guarantee you will (but your wives will).
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 I take back what I said about Nate & Hayes.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Meryl Streep was amazing; I can't think of any actress who could have done a better job. I especially loved the way she underplayed -- quiet words, mildly sarcastic tone -- that was much more effective than the standard nasty woman role. And Anne Hathaway is the most charming actress working today. Add Stanley Tucci, and you know you'll see a fine performance.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Saw it on video this weekend. Meryl Streep was great and Stanley Tucci and Anne Hathaway were both fine but if someone other than Streep were in that role it would have been unwatchable. The scenes of Hathaway and her friends were as dull as can be but the Streep scenes elevated it to a passable movie.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Disagree, as far as "passable."A simultaneously insulting and pandering film.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 it has an inpenetrable estrogen aura that prevents me from even considering watching it, unless my wife insisted. But even she found it too gay for words. NTTAWWT. I like Anne Hathaway. She got naked with hispanic gangbangers in an otherwise awful movie called ..."havoc", i think.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Yup. 'Havoc'. Bijou Phillips too.Ms. Hathaway also had a scene in 'Brokeback Mountain' in which the integrity of her character would've been severly comprised had she not gone topless in the backseat of a car with Jake Gyllenhall.A true artiste is what she is.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 If you're trying to trick me into seeing "Brokeback Mountain," it's not going to work.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 If anybody doesn't deserve your money, it's people turning chicklit into film.OK, them and slave traders.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 and if you combine Chick-Lit with slave traders, you get the most unwatchable movie of all time... GONE WITH THE WIND.
