Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Marrero saves the day with a great running grab of a Melvin Mora rocket. Mets still lead 5-4.

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Nice catch by Marrero, but I agree with Elster that he made it tougher than it needed to be by taking a bad angle on Mora's shot. Still, it was a big play and he made it.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Reyes hits the ball so hard that Mora only option is to let it hit him. That HAD to hurt.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Reyes ricochets a rocket off the knee of Melvin Mora who was playing in at third. That's gonna leave a mark. That's why they call it the hot corner.Okay team, let's bring him around.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Though by disgusting, I actually meant good. It's like saying "nasty outfielders".
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Mora throws it away!1st and 3rd for david wright!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Beltran grounds to third-Mora looks Reyes back, rushes his throw and throws it away!Ron Darling thinks his knocked knee was a factor.Anyone who saw that--if it hit him in the knee I cant believe he's still in the game.1st and 3rd, one out, and they will bring in a new pitcher to face Wright.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Mora air mails his throw to first allowing Beltran to reach base on the error. Reyes moves up to third. Wright coming to the plate with one out and a chance to pad the lead.Lots of speed on the bases. I'd like to see Beltran run and see what the Orioles do.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Now that's something I don't recall seeing before. Wright singles on a sinking liner to left that short hops up the arm of the left fielder and goes down the back of his jersey.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Wright singles! The ball went up and into left fielder Rogers shirt!Holy crapoli- it went up his sleeve and out the back of his collar.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Breaking this game open on some strange plays here. A lost ball? An obstruction call?Mora is having a bad inning.
Guest Iubitul Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Watch the Mets - you'll see something you've never seen before almost every day...
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 UNBELIEVABLE!AMAZIN!Mr Franco singles to left and all hell breaks loose as Beltran scores, Wright is thrown out and is ruled safe on interference by Tejada!
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Wow, another rare sight. Wright gets gunned down at the plate trying to score on a wild throw from the outfield, but Tejada is called for interfering with Wright rounding third so the run counts. I love insurance runs anyway we can get them.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Mr FRANCO STEALS 3RD!This may be the wacyest inning of the year, and we have seen some wacky ones
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 The fun just keeps coming. Castro singles through the hole on the right side scoring Franco.Mets 8 Orioles 4.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Mets win 9-4 and Tom Glavine is the first ten game winner in the bigs.Who woulda thought?Great game.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Why, exactly, was Heilman used today?
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Elster88 wrote:Why, exactly, was Heilman used today?I called that one. Why use Wagner when there won't be an off day for another week? Let Heilman get some work in a non-stress situation and, hopefully, be on the mound for the end of game celebration. He needed a confidence inning, and a chance to earn the cheers of the fans at Shea. I thought it was the right move.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Nope. Let Heilman rest and put a back of the bullpen guy in.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Fun game. Very hot.Did the sensible thing after all and left I.J. at home where he watched it on TV with Mom and the A/C. My brother brought his 11 month old and she (and he) were gone after the slam. Too hot!Eli Marerro's at-bat music is "Burning Heart" by Survivor.Visited the KCs who did the right thing and had seats in the shade. Shade didn;t reach me till the 8th.Giveaway Met visor was/is SWEET. Needed it too since I forgot to take a cap.Dad was there and mentioned he & Mom (and my embryonic sister) were in Shea for its opening day in 64. I either never knew that or forgot. He said he bought the tixx a few weeks before the game at the park -- they let you in to walk around the seats and choose the ones you wanted. When I bought the tixx for this game back in February, I waited in a 2+ hour line in the freezing cold, and a cop stopped me when I tried to go down into the seats afterward.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 ]Nope. Let Heilman rest and put a back of the bullpen guy in.This is a perfectly sound choice to let a good pitcher who has been pitching poorly get a low-risk inning in which to get right.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 i was ok with heilman pitching, he's been shaky for a few weeks now and getting him some work in a spot where he could just pitch without worrying about the scoreboard might have been a good idea.i'd being lying if i said i felt uncomfortable bringing him into a 1-run game before today, but now i feel slightly more comfortable.

Let's see if Willie does that.
