You got to be happy for David Wright there. What a wonderful young player he is, focussed, smart, supremely skilled, and --if such a thing exists---clutch as hell. Don't understand why WWSB didn't pinch-run for LoDuca there--you were facing extra innings, you've got a day game tomorrow, and on some hits to the OF ( a two out single to Bernie's glove side, for example) Endy scores and LoDuca doesn't. But Wright's hit makes such quibbles moot. Fantastic player, thrilling game. Couldn't script a better one.I wouldn't exactly call Mr. Wright "clutch" quite yet. Bases loaded, 1 out, down by one... But he is showing signs of improvement.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I thought about running for LoDuca as soon as he got on but rejected it. I might have if were the run needed to tie a game - but the odds that the diff in speed would make the crucial difference were real small and it's a 2-player move (burns Chavez & Castro) leaving only Franco on the bench of a game headed for extra innings. If it were Castro out there insted of LoDuca then I might.A handful of MFY fans on the radio complaining about:- Wright's "excessive celebration" while running towards 1stand- Howie Rose's call on the winning hitWah, Fuckin, wah!!
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Others are still crying over Arod getting himself thrown out at 2nd.That was a big play in our favor.

Or in this case the Ted Williams rule: "Son, Mr. WiIlliams will let know which pitches are strikes by whacking them off the right field wall for ya.."OE: fixe'd coding
Guest GYC Guests Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 It looked like, to me, that A-Rods left foot missed 2nd base and the tag was applied before his right foot touched.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 For what its worth I'm not too certain Jetah actually got a glove on Reyes when he was caught stealing. He swiped at him but I never saw conclusively that he touched him.I s'pose if the ball is there and the play's that close you get that call, but still...
